Purpose, Vision, Mission, and Schoolwide Learner Outcomes
Purpose
The primary purpose of the continuation high schools in LAUSD is to provide credit deficient, at-risk students the opportunity to succeed academically and earn a high school diploma. Our continuation school's small size helps to create a close relationship among students and teachers, providing a dual emphasis upon academic instruction and personal guidance. This enables students to more effectively recapture credits, complete their graduation requirements, and leave our school with a high school diploma and a plan for post-secondary educational or vocational opportunities.
Vision
The vision of Owensmouth High School is to build connections with students that enable confidence, academic knowledge and independence. We believe a caring environment inspires trust and honors diversity. We also believe our students learn in a variety of ways and need alternative opportunities to experience success. Furthermore, we believe that students’ individualities need to be nurtured as do their abilities to learn and work in a community. Finally, we believe growth and change occur in a culture that values individuals and their connections. At the core of our success is relationship- building which supports our legacy—sending students into the world with a strong sense of self and the ability to face life prepared to build on their academic success and personal growth.
Mision
Owensmouth High School’s mission is to create a safe environment in which all are respected and committed to increasing student achievement. With staff and families/guardians working as one, students become valued members of the global society and meet future challenges by their empowerment to develop civic awareness, social responsibility, as well as independent thinking and problem-solving skills.
